Denstone® deltaP™ Support Media Installation
Procedures and Recommendations for Handling, Storage, Sizing and Installation of Denstone® deltaPTM Ceramic Bed Support Media
Handling
Appropriate pallet handling equipment should be utilized when moving pallets.
Storage
Pallets containing Denstone® deltaPTM media can be stacked no more than two high. While Denstone deltaP media has an extended shelf life, due to packaging, it should be stored in a dry area, out of direct sunlight.
Sizing
Traditional support media requires up to four sizes being loaded into the vessel. Sizing is simplified since with Denstone deltaP, only two sizes are necessary, and in some cases only one size is required. For replacement purposes, use the following as a guideline for substituting traditional support media with Denstone deltaP support media.
The formula for determining support media sized based on catalyst size becomes simplified when using Denstone deltaP spheres. Denstone deltaP P1-size support media is the size most often required for supporting the catalyst. It is recommended to install a minimum depth of 100 mm (4") of Denstone deltaP P1-size media. If a second layer of bed support media is necessary, use Denstone deltaP P2-size media.
Denstone® deltaPTM media, Size P1, replaces support media 3 mm - 13 mm (1/8" - 1/2")

Installation
Prior to loading Denstone deltaP support media, the unit should be inspected and any foreign material should be removed. Grid supports, collectors, or diffusers should be inspected to make certain they are firmly secured. Inspect for any gaps or holes and repair before loading any support media. As well, any particles or fines lodged in the grid or support screen should be removed to avoid abnormal pressure drop in the unit or channeling of the gas stream.
The support media may be loaded by means of buckets, chutes, socks, or telescopic sleeves. Free fall of the media should be limited to less than two feet. As loading continues, the media should be periodically leveled for even distribution.
Physical handling of the support media during loading should be kept to a minimum. Inspection should be conducted after the first ten to fifteen percent of the support media has been loaded to verify that no breakage of spheres has occurred.
Safety
Always wear proper personal protective equipment, follow good practice, and observe local laws in handling, use, and disposal of support media.
